Oil Spill Oil Tanker Finally Refloated After Grounding
The Solomon Trader finally refloated
It took more than three months after the bulker grounded on February 5th on Rennell Island, a coral reef near a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Solomon Trader spilled approximately 100 tons of bunker fuel in the marine environment after grounding during stormy conditions in remote area of the Solomon Islands, as reported earlier.
The Trader’s charterer, Bintan Mining, claims that it bears no responsibility for the casualty, and to continue its operations. While on the other hand, the Solomon Islands’ acting prime minister, Rick Hou, has threatened to “blacklist” the companies involved if they “do not take on their responsibilities.”
