Norwegian oil company Statoil has re-mobilized previously suspended COSL Drilling’s semi-submersible rig COSLPromoter, and sent it back to the Troll field, offshore Norway.

To remind, Statoil recently decided to stop drilling operations with the COSLPromoter until it was “safe to discontinue well operations”. According to Statoil, this was done in order to enable COSL to implement the necessary actions in order to fulfil the requirements of the contract.

After two weeks of suspension, COSL Drilling reported that the company’s drilling rig was re-mobilized to the Troll field in the North Sea on March 18 in order to resume its operations.

The drilling contractor said it has implemented the measures required by the oil company thus fulfilling the requirements of the contract. However, the company did not reveal the exact nature of these measures.

Meanwhile, Statoil’s contract with COSLPromoter’s sister rig, COSLInnovator, was terminated bringing about the loss of 230 jobs at COSL Drilling.
