Aberdeen based Asset Development & Improvement Ltd (ADIL) founded in 2006 has been sold to oil giant Schlumberger for an undisclosed sum.

The surprise move by the companies managing director, founder and main share holder, James Paton comes on the eve of Schlumberger’s £9billion takeover of rival Cameron International.

Since its inception in 2006, ADIL has provided market-leading consultancy to the oil and gas industry across every lifecycle stage—from exploration through development and production operations and decommissioning.

Mr Paton is expected to remain as the companies managing director to take advantage of Schlumberger’s global reach to help expand the companies service offering. ADIL is currently delivering a major oil and gas collaboration project in the Southern North Sea with gas giant, Centrica.

The project was the result of Mr Paton’s vision to create a shared services model, conceived long before the oil industry downturn forced oil and gas companies to consider embracing collaborative activities in an effort to reduce costs.

ADIL established a London office in 2012. earlier this year the company said it had “upwards of 100 staff” at its offices in Aberdeen and London when it was listed as one of London Stock Exchange’s “1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain”.

ADIL’s most recent accounts show the firm achieved a turnover of £33.4million in year ending 2014, and made a £2.5million pre-tax profit.

The Acquisition is expected to create more jobs within ADIL which is in contract to the 10,000 jobs Schlumberger plans to cut from its global workforce in the first half of this year.
