An offshore helicopter has had to turn back to base just minutes after leaving Aberdeen this morning following an emergency on board.

Reports state that engine problems forced the Babcock S92 helicopter to return back to Aberdeen airport shortly after taking off.

Emergency services attended the scene with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service being alerted.

The helicopter made a safe landing following.

An Aberdeen International Airport spokesman said: “A full emergency was declared at 8.48am.

“The helicopter departed the airport but due to problems with the engine it landed again at 8.52am.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland were made aware of a concern for an aircraft coming in to land at Aberdeen International Airport today.

“The aircraft landed safely.”
