Oil Service Company – Take Pay Cut or Face Termination
An oil service company in Aberdeen has given their staff till tomorrow to accept a 7% pay cut or face having their contracts terminated.
Sparrows group made the call in a letter issued to staff urging them to take a voluntary 7% pay cut. The letter warns that if they don’t accept the move then it could lead to a notice on their current terms or “reengagement” on new terms and conditions.
The warning says that if they don’t accept the changes then they risk forcing colleagues who have accepted or intend to accept the offer, to shoulder a much “more significant” burden to ensure the companies cost cutting targets are met.
The threat comes on the same week that Offshore workers on Shell platforms have threatened strike action following 3 rounds of cuts to their pay and conditions by Wood Group
