‘Ocean King’ Contract Ends After 30 Years
Atlantic Offshore let it’s contract with the Ocean King expire after 30 years of on-going renewal.
Norwegian Statoil had contracted the vessel since 1986, but has decided not to take up a final 12 month option it had to retain the ship.
The previous extensions of the contract were from May 2015 to January 2016 and from January to July 2016, however Statoil had another 12 month option available but took the decision not to use it. The Ocean King was an Anchor Handling Tug Support (AHTS) Vessel and was also used as an Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV).
The vessel is 75 meters long with a gross tonnage of over 2,000 tons. It can accomodate up to 43 crew and has 4 main engines each producing 2,300 kW of power and bow thrusters with up to 1,000bhp each.
The ships future currently remains unclear.
