“No sign of Survivors” in North Sea Super Puma Crash
Flight Radar has confirmed that it is a CHC Super Puma EC225 that has crashed
The accident happened on the coast outside Bergen.
A CHC Super Puma EC225 helicopter crashed on the island Turøy in western Norway. According to the Norwegian authorities, there were 13 people in the helicopter when it crashed.
There are no signs of survivors, police said to TV 2 Norway. Rescue crews are in “full emergency mode”.
Eyewitnesses told the TV 2 Norway, it is a great helicopter used to transport oil workers out to the North Sea. According to Flight Radar the helicopter was heading towards land from Gullflaks B drilling platform when the accident happened.
Statoil confirms that the helicopter was on its way from Gullflaks to Flesland. The oil company has begun to create a relative centre and has suspended all flights.
Earlier there were reports that there were up to 17 people by helicopter, but the latest information from the operation manager confirms that 13 people were onboard.
The authorities have sent several vessels with divers at the site where the helicopter crashed.
Eyewitnesses have told the Norwegian newspaper VG that there was “violent explosion”.
“I heard a helicopter coming from the North Sea, it was a strange sound. As I looked up the rotor flew off to the left as the helicopter came down to the right,” eyewitness Jon Sekkingstad told broadcaster NRK.
The reports we have received indicate that the helicopter is virtually disintegrated, said rescue leader Bjorn Jarle Åmlid to the Norwegian news agency NTB.
Police were alerted of the accident at 11:55.
