COSL Scores Seismic Survey Work in ‘Far East’
China Oilfield Services Limited, a Chinese offshore services provider also known under the abbreviated name COSL, has won another seismic acquisition contract.
In a statement on Monday, COSL said it will carry out a 3D seismic survey in the “Far East”, without providing the specific location. The company will use the Hai Yan Shi You 718 seismic vessel for the project. The company said the vessel would depart towards the project in late June.
While the company did not name the exact location, it might be that the vessel will be working for the Russians, somewhere around the Sakhalin Island.
The basis for this belief is that COSL today also said that its Nanhai-9 rig has started drilling in the “Far East.” To remind, Offshore Energy Today last week reported that the Nanhai-9 indeed started drilling in the Far East, more precisely in the Sea of Ohotsk, for a consortium comprising Rosneft and Statoil.
If proven correct, this will not be the first time a COSL seismic vessel is linked with work in Russia. Namely, the Chinese company late in May said it would be carrying out a seismic survey in the Barents Sea. This survey is believed to be conducted on behalf of Rosneft.
