China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL), a Chinese offshore services provider, has signed an integrated service contract with Hokchi Energy S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Pan American Energy LLC, for operations offshore Mexico.

COSL said on Sunday that work under the contract would begin in October 2016. Under the terms of the contract, COSL will provide services with its COSL Hunter jack-up drilling rig and the HYSY 614 marine support vessel.

The company said that this is the first oilfield service project available for tender by an oil company outside Mexico and the first public tender project by Mexico’s energy ministry after the energy reforms in Mexico.

The COSL Hunter jack-up rig was constructed in China Merchants Heavy Industry Shipyard in Shenzhen in 2013. It is of Gusto MSC design and can operate in a water depth of 375 ft with a maximum drilling depth of 30,000 ft and can accommodate 124 people.

COSL added that the contract is the first marine support deal for the company in the Gulf of Mexico and that it marks the company’s expansion into that market and increases COSL’s share in overseas markets.
