Company says ‘technical issue’ being investigated on Clair platform west of Shetland

BP PLC has shut down its Clair platform in the North Sea after an oil leak Sunday morning, the company said in an email.

The leak was caused by a technical issue on the remote platform, which is 75 kilometers west of Shetland. The size of the spill wasn’t disclosed.

The platform “has been shut down and the release has been stopped. All personnel have been accounted for and there are no injuries,” a BP spokesman said in the emailed statement. “We are investigating the cause of the technical issue and monitoring the situation.”

The company said it had notified all relevant authorities.
