Aberdeen Subsea Firm Confirms it Will Lay Off a Number of Employees
Aberdeen and Bergen based DOF Subsea has today confirmed it expects to make staff lay offs blaming the “depressed market”
The company refused to confirm the numbers of lay offs it will be making but Oil and Gas People understands it to be at least 20 positions in aberdeen and 10 in Bergen.
A spokeswoman for the company said the market had been depressed in recent years, with lower oil prices putting a crimp on spending in the offshore oil and gas market.
The spokeswoman went on to say: “Although the situation is slowly improving, it has had a detrimental effect on DOF Subsea revenues in the Atlantic region and consequently the company has had to look at efficiencies within the organisation, in order to position for the market recovery.
“The outcome of this review has unfortunately resulted in a number of positions in both Aberdeen and Bergen being placed at risk.
“We have a good team in the Atlantic region and the consultation process will be followed closely.”
DOF Subsea made a pre-tax loss of £55 million in 2018 and reported to have 389 employees at year end covering their Atlantic division.
The news comes after a week of contract wins from other subsea companies.
