Centrica Cuts 90 Jobs Across European Operation – Aberdeen Worst Hit
Centrica has taken the decision to cut 90 jobs across its European operations.
The cuts come after Centrica announced it was in consultation with 710 of it’s employees in Europe, including UK in Aberdeen and Morecambe Bay.
Aberdeen is worst hit with a total of 25 jobs expected to go, whilst it’s Morecambe Bay operations in England are expected to lose 24 staff.
A further 13 positions are also reported to be cut in Norway.
The consultation period involved 710 members of staff at the time.
Offshore jobs were not affected by the consultation process.
A Centrica spokesman said: “After a full consultation with our people, we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to reduce the number of roles in our E&P team.
“We want to maximise the potential of our North Sea and Morecambe Bay assets, and over several months have been working hard to find new ways of operating and finalising the structure of our
business to make that happen.
“We recognise that this represents difficult news for our employees who may be affected. Our priority now is to support all those impacted.”
It comes after Maersk Oil said yesterday it would be cutting 160 roles from its Danish Business Unit.
In April last year Centrica said it would cut about 3,000 jobs.
