Up to 80 Jobs at Risk at Oil and Gas Engineering Firm
Up to 80 jobs are at risk at a major engineering plant in Aberdeen.
GE Oil and Gas has opened consultations with staff on cost-cutting measures including a reduction in staff numbers at the Bridge of Don facility.
The firm employs 260 people at the site, with the job losses amounting to a 30% cut.
The company has blamed the development on the continuing industry downturn.
A spokesman said: “Due to the long-term decline in the oil price, delays and cancellations of major projects have resulted in a reduction in available work for the global industry.
“Some weeks ago, GE Oil and Gas began consulting with employees on actions to reduce the cost structure of the business including a number of work force reductions and consolidation of manufacturing and service operations.
“We don’t make these proposals lightly but believe action is necessary for the long-term health of the business to remain competitive and to better meet the needs of the customer.”
