Austrian energy firm OMV is looking at options for development of its Barents Sea oil find.

The company has awarded Sevan Marine a study to evaluate its cylindrical hull design for application on the Wisting field development.

According to Sevan, OMV Norge AS is screening various floating alternatives for developing the Wisting discovery, located 310 kilometers north of Hammerfest.

Sevan says that the study is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The Wisting discovery was made back in 2013 in licence PL537 .

This is not the first time Sevan is working on a floater destined for the Barents Sea. The company was responsible for the design of the Goliat FPSO, deployed at the Eni-operated Goliat field in the Barents Sea. Sevan isn’t planning on stopping there.

Sevan recently said it would target “Goliat size” projects in the Barents Sea with its cylindrical FPSO solution. Apart from Goliat and Wisting, the company is looking at the Johan Castberg and Alta/Gohta discoveries.

As for the Goliat, dubbed the world’s northernmost producing offshore field, the field is currently shut down due to a recent power outage.
