Offshore Protestors Gather at Shell Depots to Vent Anger at Strike ‘Scab’ Workforce Plans
Offshore workers and trade unionist gathered today at Shell garages across the UK to highlight what they referred to as the dirty tactics being employed by both Shell (Duty Holder) and Wood Group (Employer)
Oil and Gas People broke last week how Shell were actively recruiting a ‘Scab’ workforce to cover key positions on each of their 8 installations that will be affected by next weeks planned strike action.
Protest coordinator James Furie told Oil and Gas People: “both Shell and Wood Group need to realise we’ve been organising far and wide since the onslaught of these cuts and we are only going to get stronger and more far reaching. We will do what ever we can to support each and every person under these hostile repetitive attacks on terms and conditions”
The protestors also told Oil and Gas People they had a number of protests planed to run alongside the strike action next week.
The strikes scheduled for next week come after a long standing dispute between Wood Group and offshore workers. Wood Group are the main contractor supplying manpower to Shell on 8 of their UK installations.
