Breaking: North Sea Workers Will Down Tools
Around 400 offshore workers employed by Wood Group will take part in the first North Sea strikes for a generation.
The workers who are members of RMT and Unite the Unions will take part in a series of strike, the first scheduled for July 26th 2016.
The news comes after RMT and Unite the Union members voted overwhelmingly in favour of offshore strikes on Wednesday 13th July.
The strikes came as a direct result of Wood Groups plans to cut worker pay by as much as 30% and concerns over a change to a 3 week working cycle.
The strike is expected to severely disrupt operations in the Shell oil and gas fields.
The strikes come after the entire industry has seen salaries sliced and benefits reduced and it is thought that Wood Group employees may serve as a trigger for other workers across the sector who are unhappy with the ever decreasing remuneration.
