Well Kick in North Sea Halts Shell Operation
Shells ‘Plug and Make Safe’ operation on board the Brent Bravo was halted Wednesday after a Well ‘Kick’ turned into an uncontrolled incident which ejected heavyweight drill pipe and damaged the Platforms Top Drive System.
Oil and Gas People were made aware of the incident from a source on board the Platform who stated: “The incident was absolutely frightening! Heavyweight drill pipe spewed out of the hole and wrecked the top drive”.
A spokesperson for Shell has confirmed that some damage has occurred to the Top Drive system but described it as “not significant”.
Shell released the following statement in response: “Shell can confirm that during routine work on the Brent Bravo platform on 29th June, a small blockage occurred in a drilling pipe. There was no spillage on board and no harm to personnel working on the platform. Shell has commenced an investigation.”
