Brand New Drilling Rig Enters North Sea
Songa Offshore’s forth new drilling rig built in South Korea is nearing the North Sea where it is set to start drilling for Statoil. The contract on the Snohvit field will keep the rig drilling for 8 years with the oil major.
The mid-water semi-submersible is the final one of four new Category-D rigs built for and contracted exclusively to Statoil.
The third of the four new Cat D rigs the Songa Encourage, started drilling operations for Statoil on the Norwegian Continental shelf in April.
All four rigs are semisubmersible, sixth generation Cat D drilling rigs built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Korea.
