A Major search operation involving the coastguard the RNLI and the police is underway off the coast of Peterhead today. The alert was raised at 11.15am and at 2pm today the coastguard helicopter and Peterhead lifeboat was still in the area near Cruden Bay and Bodam.

Two oil and gas supply vessels are also in the area and according to the Marine Traffic website have been circling around an area just off of Cruden Bay. It is believed they are assisting with the search but we have had no confirmation.

A coastguard spokesman said: “we received the call at 11.12am and have mobilised teams from across the North East.

“we are currently assisting police in the search for a person in the Cruden Bay area.

“This is only the start of the operation”
