Mariner FSU Named in South Korea
A naming ceremony for the floating storage unit (FSU) to be deployed at the Statoil-operated Mariner field in the UK North Sea was held on Thursday in South Korea.
The 250 meters long vessel, built by Samsung Heavy Industries, will leave the yard in the summer. The journey between South Korea and Scotland is expected to take 72 days.
According to Statoil, the FSU has been designed with a higher specification than ordinary commercial vessels to allow it to remain offshore for the lifetime of the field without any docking.
The Mariner field is located on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea, approximately 95 miles or 150 kilometres east of Shetland.
The field development concept includes a production, drilling and quarters (PDQ) platform based on a steel jacket – Mariner A – connected to a floating storage unit (FSU), Mariner B. Production is expected to start in 2018.
